Britto Tours America

Renowned Pop Artist Romero Britto Shares Sculptures with New Audiences

Britto Tours AmericaBEACHWOOD, Ohio -- With the belief that “art is too important not to share,” internationally known artist Romero Britto is bringing his museum-quality work to communities across the country. One of the premier pop artists of our time, Britto will launch the Britto Tours America exhibition, hosted by Developers Diversified Realty on June 12, 2008 in Denver, CO.

While Britto is a regular in international galleries, private art collections and museums, the Britto Tours America exhibition is the first of its kind for the artist. The traveling sculpture tour will visit 11 Developers Diversified Realty centers throughout the nation.

Each of the 11 sculptures featured will stand between 5 feet 6 inches and 13 feet 5 inches tall and will include some of Britto’s most familiar images, including Big Apple, Dancing Boy and Blue Dog.

Romero Britto ArtworkBritto’s vibrant and passionate collection is easily recognized for its bright colors and bold compositions. His sculptures and paintings are exhibited on five continents and sought by art lovers everywhere, including collectors such as California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, tennis star Andre Agassi, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy and philanthropist Eileen Guggenheim. The Britto Tours America tour offers different communities and audiences a chance to experience the whimsy and joy of Britto’s artwork.

We are thrilled to feature Romero Britto’s work at our domestic lifestyle centers,” said John S. Kokinchak, executive vice president of property management at Developers Diversified Realty. “We believe that bringing art to our communities creates an opportunity to inspire creativity, encourage art appreciation and support educational organizations. We are proud of this opportunity to foster awareness and learning of the arts.”

As a child growing up in Recife, Brazil, Romero Britto always had drive and a passion to excel. In his formative years, art was as a hobby as he pursued law and diplomatic studies. While serving in the Brazilian Army, Britto realized his dream to pursue his love of painting, and threw himself into his artwork.

In 1989, Britto brought his art across the Atlantic after accepting a friend’s invitation to visit Miami. He sold his art on the streets of Coconut Grove and got his big break when Absolut Vodka took notice of his talent and commissioned him to design a commemorative label. The project was a commercial success, and art lovers and critics began to take notice.

Following this amazing success, extraordinary opportunities and acclaim continued to come his way. He has been sought out for a wide variety of projects, including the historic 2007 partnership with the National Football League and Cirque du Soleil for Super Bowl XLI. He was recently invited to erect a 45-foot commemorative pyramid sculpture in London’s Hyde Park as part of the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition’s historic return to London after 35 years. Britto has also been commissioned for a variety of projects by notable companies such as Disney, Pepsi-Cola, Audi, Volvo and Movado.

Park West VIP Guests Enjoy Their Latest Cruise

Dear Park West Gallery:

Words can not express how happy we are, make that ecstatic, over our recent experience with the Park West Gallery VIP Cruise you gifted us with!

First of all, we felt like kings and queens during the entire time we spent with your staff! From the Hyatt Hotel and the Italian dinner to the balcony stateroom aboard the Explorer, to the excursion to St. John, to the pre parties and the auctions themselves, all the way to the processing through customs and delivery to our final destination, we could not have experienced better planning and efficiency. Every detail was thought out and provided for.

Even though the ship was beautiful and the islands a treat to see, the highlight of the entire experience was spending time with your intelligent, knowledgeable, well trained staff during the auctions and lectures. This was the highlight of our day and what we looked forward to every day!

Chris Lindsay was an excellent art auctioneer and educator. He brought in-depth knowledge to each and every presentation and delivered it with great style. The hours flew by listening to him and we were ready to stay and listen some more!

Simon always seemed to have things under control and was always patient and willing to help us, both with information about the artwork in the gallery and the art world in general.

Adam and Sebelle had unlimited energy and social skills right along with their great knowledge of each and every artist and their work. They had the ability to educate us about every piece we asked about and take it one step above the norm. They never pressured us to buy; they just shared every aspect about a piece so we could make informed choices. Even when we were not actively participating in the auction they had a smile, a greeting or a pat on the back for us. We felt that they really cared that we learn about art, acquire what was best for our collection, and have a wonderful time doing it.

Rebecca was the dynamo behind the scenes. She was always willing to discuss financing and payment options with us and always made us feel welcome, even if she had other things to see to. We smile over our favorite interaction with her when the bus driver at the end of the cruise told us we couldn't get on the bus and she took charge and handled the situation in the true spirit of a bulldog, and all with a smile on her face.

The collection of art on board was outstanding! There was something for every taste and budget. Our dream was to purchase our first signed Picasso, which we accomplished. Not only are we now the care takers of this fine work, but we have the entire history and background of its creation thanks to Chris, Adam and Sebelle. We purchased beautiful surprises also and can hardly wait until we have our gorgeous Mouly oil, our lovely Tarkay watercolor and our whimsical Markos acrylic all hanging in our home.

Thank you so much Jin for the invitation to be a part of this outstanding experience! We both feel this was the very best vacation we have ever taken together. Our travel companions were all friendly and had similar interests and provided lovely dinner company. We now have 50 new 'best friends' as well as terrific memories and gorgeous art.

Thank you all for ten days we will never forget!

Very sincerely,

Alan and Victoria

Memorial Day: A Time for Remembrance

Memorial Day
Monday, May 25, 2009

Park West Gallery thanks all of the men and women who have given their all in service to their country. Please take some time to remember, reflect on, and honor those who have served.

Gateway to Freedom by Simon BullGateway to Freedom by Simon Bull

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, began as a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed in December of 2000. It asks all Americans “to voluntarily and informally observe, in their own way, a moment of remembrance and respect - pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to Taps” at 3pm, local time.

Park West Gallery Sales Team Exceeds Expectations

Wow!!! We truly love the painting! It waaaaayyyyy exceeds our expectations.

Innocent Blooms by Michael MilkinWe are Park West customers for life! We are so fortunate to have this beautiful piece in our home. It truly is amazing. I have attached a picture of it here with us…I promise that a camera with a flash does not do the colors justice.

Thank you, Lisa. You will always be special to us for assisting with our first beautiful piece of artwork. You know…fine art purchases are similar to tattoos, once you get one you are already looking forward to the next one!

Thank you so much again,

Gavin, Yvonne and the Girls

Park West Guest Enjoys Her First VIP Cruise

Dear Park West Gallery:

I just wanted to take a minute to thank the entire Park West team for making the VIP Art Cruise so enjoyable. Simon was fantastic in keeping me posted on all the pre-cruise logistics, and I really appreciated his help and guidance in all the auction previews. He also went the extra mile every day by asking if there was anything we needed, etc!! Samantha was great - and she was particularly effective at clearing NCL staff out of chairs in the lobby on the evening of the "paint off"!! I also appreciated the fact that she took time to point out other original Picot works that were available when she found out that I bought the original Picot watercolor. EJ was friendly and helpful! He went to the other auction and pulled the Nixon and Marko pieces for me which I really appreciated (and can't wait to get them). And he helped me through all the framing decisions despite that fact that he was feeling poorly! And Rebecca was a star - she rounds out your team well with her bright personality and incredible administrative abilities!!!

As this was my first VIP Art Cruise I really didn't know what to expect and even when I knew there were going to be artists on board, I still really didn't understand the opportunity that was being afforded to me!! Upon reflection, how incredible it was to meet and socialize with Noah, Tim Yanke, Nano and Jerry. Park West has certainly increased my appreciation for all art! I'm still incredulous when I think I bought some abstract pieces (Mouly and Yanke)!!!

Thank you Park West for such an enjoyable experience.

Park West Gallery Auctioneers Enhance Art Collecting Experience

Dear Park West Gallery:

Just wanted to send a quick note on how much fun my wife and I had purchasing our artwork at the auction on our ship. I've seen your auctions on previous cruises, but this is the first time I have attended and participated. Both Derek and Bruce made the event fun and were very helpful with the many questions that I had.

Now the only thing I am looking forward to is getting my artwork and putting it up in my game room.

Thanks,

Phil M.

I want to commend Amy from Park West for her knowledge and professionalism at the art auction aboard the Carnival Inspiration. I had never attended an art auction prior to this cruise, and I walked away with two fantastic pieces of art at a spectacular price. Amy made the auction fun and informative, and I look forward to future Park West auctions in the future. Thank you Amy!!!

Our auctioneer, Jaco, and his assistant, Michelle, were fabulous. They were helpful and informative - my daughter hopes to study art when she goes to University and they gave her tips and suggestions, looked at her work and encouraged her. They presented several seminars during the cruise and we felt we learned a great deal spending time with them. We also are very happy with our purchases and look forward to our next cruise and Park West! Thanks again to Jaco and Michelle.

The People You Meet at Park West Art Auctions

The Reminder Newspaper, Canada

Roger’s Right Corner: It’s the People You Meet!
Commentary By Roger Cathcart

A cruise is a great way to get away and meet new people. The cruise we recently took was on my favorite line – Norwegian – and was out of the great winter cruise hub of Miami, an amazing port with great numbers of cruise ships leaving most days. Our ship was the Norwegian Jewel, a fairly new vessel as luxurious as they make them...

The most interesting people were the Park West art auction people – a fixture on Norwegian lines – whose job was to sell art from the largest gallery in the world. This was the third cruise with an auctioneer and his/her assistants - and they surely were the best.

The head guy was a young and enthusiastic man named Trevor from Houston, Texas. Trevor had worked in other capacities on cruise ships, but said he really liked this job. He had learned about art and the artists while on the job, but his knowledge is impressive and you would swear he had a degree in fine arts. He is also very articulate – a true auctioneer – and really works at getting the bids and selling the paintings.

His main assistant was Etienne, a white South African. He and I discussed the present dangers of being a white person in this dangerous country. He told me that his mother still lives there but had lost her business, and the last time he visited he was held up and robbed. Etienne does not plan to return to his native country but will go elsewhere – a wise decision.

Trevor’s second assistant was a Serbian named Aggy. He told me he had been in Canada but was sent away when his visa expired. He hopes to get an American visa and then apply to become a Canadian. Let’s hope he makes it...

Customer Corner: Park West Gallery VIP Guests Reflect

Words cannot begin to express my thanks for being a part of the Norwegian Dawn – Park West VIP Cruise. I was not sure what to expect. Park West was reassuring and understanding of my doubt and made me feel totally comfortable to say yes, when my nature was to say no. Everyone from the limo driver to the hotel staff, cruise staff and especially your staff were professional and enthusiastic. The accommodations met and exceeded my expectations.

Most impressively, I opened myself up to a new style of art. At the start of the trip, I never would have believed I would become so passionate about the works I purchased on the trip. I even surprised my son.

I met some wonderful people and the art was terrific. Best of all I have some memories and new art to cherish.

Thank you for a fabulous week,

Leslie L.

Both Nancy and I wanted to express our appreciation for being invited to the VIP cruise on board the Norwegian Dawn from April 18-25. We were able to share some good times, laughs, and exchange experiences with the fantastic group of VIP guests gathered for this cruise. We are certain that we will remain in touch with many of them for a very long time.

As for the guest artists selected for this cruise, what a fantastic experience! Tim Yanke, Noah, Nano, and although not part of our group, Jerry Blank. What a group of talented artists, and their personalities made us feel as if we had know them forever. Although we were not sure if we were going to acquire new art on this cruise, meeting and listening to these artists certainly changed our minds in a hurry.

Noah's art is simply out of this world, and we certainly look forward to obtaining more of his art in the future. As for Tim's work, although we were never big fans of abstract work, listening and spending time with him, and seeing him at work certainly gave us an immediate appreciation for his work. As soon as we saw Nano's work, we knew it would just be a matter of time before we would acquire one of his pieces. We obtained one of his cats in memory of our recently departed cat named Leo, but I can see us getting more of his sculptures in the future.

As for the Park West Gallery staff hosting this event, all we can say is that you were all great!!! From our first contact with you, to your expert assistance in helping us with our art selection, we really appreciate every bit of time spent with us in that process.

Again, our sincere thanks to you, the entire auctioneer staff on board, and to Park West Gallery for this opportunity of a lifetime.
