Art Auctioneer Makes a Lasting Impression

Dear Park West Gallery:

Blushing Beauty on Blends. Peter Max. 2006.This past cruise was my husband and my 9th cruise. Since cruise #2 we have been going to the art auctions onboard. Hands down, the art crew that you had on our latest cruise was the absolute best!!!! Catherine was phenomenal. I purchased what I consider some of the best artwork to add to my collection, including a Peter Max, which I have wanted for years.

Catherine's knowledge of the artists and their works brought all of us into a world that few have made me feel comfortable in. She was by far the best art auctioneer that I have dealt with, and I have been to many onboard auctions.

She was not pushy, she did not get upset when no one bid on certain pieces, she included everyone in the auction even those who were not planning to buy, she guided the buyers to artists that she knew we would be happiest with, she made the entire experience a pleasure and kept me coming back for more with her various informative meetings about certain types of art, when obviously there were plenty of other things to do on the ship.

Catherine's staff was so supportive, friendly, helpful, and like Catherine, very compassionate. The staff included Samantha, Jacques, and Mark. My only hope is that when we go on another cruise next year, these wonderful, wonderful people will be present again.

My husband and I feel that we have encountered the absolute best that Park West has to offer, and I know that when I go to my next onboard auction, I will be drastically comparing that art crew to the fabulous crew that we had the pleasure to deal with on our recent cruise.

Keep up the good work Catherine, Samantha, Mark, and Jacques. And Park West, congratulations on having 4 such wonderful people working for you.

Sincerely,

Rosemarie D.

Customers Enjoy Cruising with Park West at Sea

Tridim-KK by Victor Vasarely
"We were lucky enough to be invited to a cruise of Alaska by Park West Gallery and there are no words to fully describe the great experience we shared.

The Park West staff was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, thoughtful, accommodating and sensitive to any request we made.

The quality of the artwork was exceptional and as an added bonus we met two world renowned artists. When you add to the above the beautiful cruise ship and being a part of a very friendly, fun group, it made for one of our best vacations.

Thanks for including us in that wonderful event."

We will be lifetime Park West customers…

Violin and Cello Duet. Charles Lee.
"We recently cruised on the Carnival Fantasy and were very impressed with the staff of Park West. Lindie and Erin spent hours answering questions, educating us, and helping us decide how to begin our collection. Yasser not only spent a great deal of time running to and from lockers to bring us new pieces to look at, but his dedication and commitment went beyond anything we could ask or expect.

He volunteered to give up his personal time on disembark day to help us get our carry off items to fed ex. He waited in line with us through customs, carried the items to the taxi and even rode with us to make sure we got everything shipped alright. The first fed ex couldn't help us because the paintings were too big, so Yasser walked the 9 blocks with us to the bigger store weighted down with 6 paintings. He then helped us find a cab and made sure we got off to the airport okay.

Interior with Lichtenstein. Fanch (Francois Ledan). I was so touched that a "stranger" that we'd known for only a couple of days would be so kind and genuine that it brought tears to my eyes. He wanted and asked for nothing in exchange for this tremendous act of kindness. We are very pleased and satisfied with our artwork, but what made the purchase even more memorable is the personal care and compassion that we received from this remarkable young man. There is no way that my husband and I could have done it without him.

Park West has hit the jackpot with the staff aboard the Carnival Fantasy. Lindie, Erin and Yasser all three deserve a pat on the back. I am certain that I will remember the kindness and support that your staff provided for many years to come. The combination of the quality of art, fair prices and tremendous customer service has insured that we will be lifetime Park West customers. Keep up the great work and don't let those staff members get away!"

Park West Supports Institutes of Higher Learning

Gallery provides framing for previously donated artwork to Central Michigan University

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN / Aug. 19 -- As part of its ongoing university donation program, Park West Gallery will be providing framing services for 100 works of art donated to Central Michigan University (CMU), allowing the works to be prominently displayed and making the artwork more accessible to Central Michigan students, its faculty, and members of the local community.

"It is always with great pleasure that Park West provides its services to institutes of higher learning," said founder and CEO of Park West Gallery, Albert Scaglione. "We hope that Central Michigan enjoys the artwork and, with it now being framed, is able to display the works in such a way that CMU students are able to significantly benefit from the collection."

Mr. Scaglione has been a supporter of Central Michigan University for many years. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science by CMU during their commencement ceremonies last December. He also delivered the commencement address, inspiring the graduating seniors to pursue their dreams.

Over the past 10 years, more than $40 million dollars of art from the Park West Gallery collection has been donated by Albert Scaglione and his wife Mitsie. In addition to donating to Central Michigan University, the Scagliones have gifted artwork to: Eastern Michigan University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Henry Ford Community College, Jackson Community College, Lake Michigan College, Lawrence Technological University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Northwest State Community College, and Wittenberg University.

As part of its university donation program, Park West Gallery developed websites for each school. These sites provide information about the artists, images of the artwork in the school's collection, and links to the artists' own websites.

Always Happy with Park West Gallery

The Flooding. Slava Ilyayev.
We just completed our 5th cruise, and on each of the last four we have purchased beautiful art pieces from Park West Gallery. Every time we cruise we find more paintings or drawings that we can't resist. They are all beautiful.

We own works by Tarkay, Max, Dali (3), Mouly, and Steynovitz (3). A new artist that we added this time was Salva Ilyayev. We love his work, and plan to add more from him in the future.

Our auctioneer, Brandon Weiss, did a superb job and was very professional and helpful. The auctions are fun and never boring. We look forward to more in the future. Thank you for the great art auctions.

Art Auctioneer Enjoys Being with Park West at Sea

The Art Auctioneers representing Park West Gallery on cruise ships around the world lead extraordinary lives. While they do work hard running Park West’s Cruise Art Auctions, they also get to explore all of the exotic locations they find themselves in – all while meeting some fantastic people along the way.

We hope you enjoy getting a glimpse into their activities as much as we do. We also love hearing about your experiences with
Park West at sea, so please feel free to share them with us.

"Pablo Picasso once said, “If you know exactly what you’re going to do, what’s the good of doing it? Since you know, the exercise is pointless. It is better to do something else.” I chose to do something different than the status quo.

Over the past year or so, I have been to Alaska, Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Mexico, Columbia, Costa Rica, Panama, Puerto Rico, Florida, and way too many islands in the Caribbean to name. I have learned how to surf, I have held a baby sea turtle, swam with dolphins, seen Humpback Whales, Black Bears, and eaten Alaskan King Crab… while in Alaska. I have seen the sunset in Maui and the same month watched as it set in Costa Rica. I work with a commodity that people want and need, I help provide the opportunity of a lifetime for others, while enjoying and taking advantage of every opportunity afforded to me in mine.

I have one of the best jobs in the world; I am an Art Auctioneer representing Park West Gallery. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Situated just down the street, walking distance from the house I grew up in, is Park West’s main gallery. Park West Gallery is a mainstay in my community not only for its claim to fame as the “world’s largest art dealer” but also because of its charitable contributions to the less fortunate in the Metro Detroit area. It was the way that art impacted me and my family, not to mention the potential income and travel, that made me decide on a career as an Art Auctioneer.

Living and working on a cruise ship is a wonderful life. Sure there are things that I miss from home but my life is so much better now than it used to be. My friends are from all over the world; I’ve got every continent covered except Antarctica. Every week I meet two or three thousand new guests that turn into friends and clients as we share the experience of travel and fine art. Life is good. I help to enable my collectors to turn their houses into homes. In my life as an Auctioneer, every week is different; this job is helping me to define who I am."

Happy Lefthanders Day: Top Ten Lefty Artists

AUGUST 13 is International Lefthanders Day!! The holiday was first observed on this day in 1976 as an effort to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world. It is often speculated that lefties are right-brain dominant - the side of the brain linked to non-verbal thinking, artistic ability and creative skills.

So southpaws, celebrate your uniqueness along with the other 7-10% of the world’s left-handed population, including these TEN ARTISTS:

Art Auctioneers Educate at Park West Auction

Dear Park West Gallery:

Peter Max. Roseville Series: Roseville Profile Detail Ver. IV #82. 2007. A unique work. From the collection of the artist.I wanted to let you know what a great time we had with Chris Lindsay and Angie. They made it so much fun to go to the auctions. I had never been to an auction before and wouldn't have gone except that Chris was giving out some raffle tickets at another function on the ship.

I ended up with a winning ticket and went to the auction with my wife. What a blast! We ended up going to the next auction too.

After asking tons of questions and getting the answers in such a friendly manner, no matter how stupid we seemed (my art knowledge was the dogs playing poker) we ended up with 3 Krasnyansky's, 3 Marcus Glenn's, the entire free collection for winning, bonuses, etc. and a Peter Max. I would have never gone if I had not won the first Krasnyansky. They both went way above and beyond to help us and educate us. It was truly a pleasure meeting them.

Thank you,

Steve & Rose W.

Park West Auctioneer Reflects on Park West at Sea

Here at Park West, we continue to enjoy all of the Park West Gallery testimonials we receive from happy art collectors after they spend time with Park West at sea. The comments about how wonderful the cruise art auctions are for collectors got us thinking about how Park West Auctioneers feel about their experiences with Park West at sea.

Below is a Park West Gallery review from the prospective of a Park West Art Auctioneer that we thought would be interesting to our collectors. Enjoy!

Park West Cruise Art Auctions"Being a Park West Art Auctioneer has been a truly amazing opportunity. I have a diverse background ranging from time spent in the military and police, to hotels, plus several years in sales and sales management. Park West has given me the chance to combine my love for and studies in art and history with my passion for sales in a way that no other career could have. I have traveled to almost every corner of the world…..

Of course the financial rewards are amazing, but without job satisfaction, the money doesn't mean much. I can honestly say that I love what I do! Introducing new collectors to the joy of collecting; seeing the amazement in people's eyes as I show a Rembrandt and relate the compelling story behind these incredible works; the excitement and energy of running a live cruise art auction for hundreds of people. No two days are ever the same! I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I realize that I'm enjoying coffee in Colombia, strolling down the canals of Venice, hiking over the rocks and tundra of Greenland, or sitting in the famed Blue Lagoon in Iceland….."

Picasso Exhibit Features Works Spanning His Life

Pablo Picasso. Woman. 1961. © Museo Picasso Málaga.
MALAGA, SPAIN -- The Museo Picasso Málaga presents the exhibition, Picasso’s Late Sculpture: Woman. The Collection in Context. The sheet-metal sculpture, Woman (1961), donated by Christine Ruiz-Picasso, is the highlight of this exhibition, bringing together some 40 works produced by Pablo Picasso at different moments of his life. It includes the paper cut-outs he made as a child, his Cubist constructions, and paintings and sculptures from his later years.

Alongside paintings and drawings from different periods, Picasso’s Late Sculpture: Woman. The Collection in Context also includes three major sculptures by Julio González and a magical decoupage by Henri Matisse, which allow the viewer to examine the artistic exchange that took place between the three great artists.

With this selection of works, the exhibition examines a lengthy creative process that culminated in a new and unique kind of sculpture towards the end of Picasso’s artistic career.

WOMAN, THE SCULPTURE
Woman, the fascinating piece that is at the center of this exhibition, is a sheet-metal sculpture produced in 1961. It is constructed of three distinct panels, folded and painted white, and is based on a paper cut-out model that Picasso made in January of the same year. The work belongs to the group of over a hundred sculptures that Pablo Picasso produced between 1961 and 1962, and with which he ended his revolutionary and innovative career as a sculptor.

Picasso’s Late Sculpture: Woman. The Collection in Context is currently on view until August 30, 2009.

Fun with Artist Leslie Lew and Park West at Sea

Leslie:

Roping Around. Leslie Lew.Joanne and I enjoyed meeting you on the cruise last week and are very excited to have the opportunity to begin collecting your beautiful work.

Although disappointed that we did not pull the trigger quick enough on the Animal Crackers painting, we are looking forward to placing Mickey-Roping Around in a prominent place on the walls of our Tuxedo Park home and enjoying it for years to come.

We have been collectors of several Picasso, Chagall and Max pieces and now hope to begin adding Lew B's. Since we are not far away, please let us know of any exhibitions that get scheduled.

Warmest Regards,

Park West Gallery Fine Art Auction

Popism #2 - Bright Future. Dominic Pangborn.
I wanted to take the time to inform you of the event here in Kansas City. My wife and I attended a land auction weekend held at Hyatt Regency Crown Center, Kansas City.

Park West provided our room, meals, and entertainment. Artists Marko Mavrovich & Dominic Pangborn were on site.

This was by far the best art weekend we have ever experienced. The staff including our contact, Simon Lindner, to EJ, Dave, & a fantastic auctioneer, were all great. Not only were they polite and professional, but very personable and seemed genuinely interested in being sure we enjoyed our time with Park West.

We acquired 3 new pieces for our collection. What made the weekend even more special was our need to bring our daughter with us and Park West's effort to accommodate. She loves art and hopes to pursue it in the future so this was a great way to allow her to have a weekend of it. Both artists made a real effort to visit with her and she even got a hand-signed scarf from Mr. Pangborn.

I just can't tell you how good we felt during the entire event and wanted to be sure the management and owner know everything possible was done to show your commitment to our satisfaction and sense of value as customers.

Best Regards,

The entire staff should be recognized....

Dear Park West Gallery:

Bouquet in Blue. 2004. Alex Perez.I think someone should know about the service that was given to my wife and I on the last cruise by your Art Auctioneer, Christopher Lindsay and his staff. We purchased a good deal of art and they handled us with kid gloves and guided us thru our purchases.

The entire staff should be recognized for the service, Chris, Marissa and Rocky, who made it enjoyable to deal with them.

We purchased many pieces of art from your company but these were the most pleasant people to deal with. That made you feel like family not just a customer, and in today’s world you are lucky to have people like them.
