Dear Park West Gallery Newsletter Editors

The Park West Gallery Newsletter staff is so appreciative of all of the thoughtful words we receive from our readers. Here are just a few of the kind responses from November's issue and we look forward to publishing even more in upcoming issues!

"I would like to thank you very much for the wonderful display of art that was aboard our ship. We had a lovely time at the auctions and saw the video of Destino, by Salvador Dali. It was beautiful. I watched it twice! I love receiving your newsletters and updates on various artists. We have a few pieces now by a couple of your artists which we love the color in their work. Keep up the great customer service."

"My wife and I have been enjoying Park West Gallery for many years. Our art collection and knowledge has grown tremendously. We look forward to the auctions (on or off cruises) and gatherings, not trying to miss any chance to enjoy the viewing of fine art and learn more about new art and the artists. We have meet quite a few artists and found them all to be very nice, outgoing and down to earth. Thank you Park West for this opportunity. I have the utmost confidence in Park West and look forward ito doing business with you for a long time coming."

Scot and Donna C.

"I love your newsletter with its beautiful illustrations and the art. As someone who does not get to visit art galleries in person it is a wonderful and very welcome email. I bought two pieces on a cruise, and thoroughly enjoy them. Keep up the good work. I wish Park West all the best. Happy Holidays to your hardworking staff."

Elma L.
Saint Philip, Barbados

"Thanks so much for the newsletter and Thanksgiving wishes....My father will be thrilled to see his new website. Thank you to the Park West team and especially to Albert for keeping him in high regard as always. The economic situation in the US as well as in Europe has taken a toll on everyone and I am grateful to see that with such a small gesture your Gallery is able to say so much. I think at times we forget that the most important and the most valued aspect of business is interpersonal relations.... and mutual respect. It makes me proud that my father is doing business with people who value him not only as an artist, but also as a human being. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at Park West, and our warmest regards to Albert and his family."

Rimma K., Anatole Krasnyansky's daughter

"The economy has taken us by surprise but we are looking forward to prosperous times ahead. Art is my great passion and your gallery Park West makes it possible for me to live and enjoy that passion every time I look at my art from Park West Gallery."

CEO Albert Scaglione Receives Honorary Doctorate from Central Michigan University and Delivers Commencement Speech

Albert ScaglioneAlbert Scaglione received an honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from Central Michigan University (CMU) and delivered the commencement speech to the winter class of graduating seniors whose degrees included; bachelor of applied arts, bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of music, bachelor of music education, master of arts, master of fine arts, master of music and master of science in administration.

Albert Scaglione, founder and chief executive officer of Park West Gallery of Southfield, which hosts fine art auctions, spoke to an audience of over 2,000 at the 1:30 pm ceremony on December 13. He inspired students with what he described as "the four C's" of recruiting and relationships for success - calling, character, chemistry and competency. Scaglione also told the graduates about the "importance of having faith and believing in something bigger and more powerful than you." He said it doesn't matter which religion is followed but it's important to have deep faith that can provide some guidance and strength every day and in difficult times.

Albert Scaglione speaking at Central Michigan UniversityScaglione holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University. He taught mechanical engineering sciences at Wayne State University and conducted aeronautical research funded by NASA early in his career before deciding to transition into art auctions.

"It is a great honor to be selected by Central Michigan University to speak to graduating seniors and help inspire them to pursue their dreams," said Scaglione. "I also am deeply grateful to receive an honorary degree by one of Michigan's premier educational institutions."

A recent ©Central Michigan Life article reported the sentiments of a couple of CMU seniors. Grand Blanc senior Keith Flewelling expressed his gratitude for the incoming speakers. "It's nice for them to take their time to come here and give us words of wisdom," he said. "It's cool that they're really successful, but at the same time not all people are looking to be CEOs - just happy," he said. Algonac senior Jeff Blevins said the speakers know the skills necessary to become successful after graduation...Read more

A Very Grateful Thank You to Park West Gallery

"I would like to express a very grateful thank you to the Park West personnel on the cruise that we just concluded. They were very helpful, very courteous and just wonderful people to deal with. They spent time answering questions and being very patient. Thank you very much. I will attend future art auctions when Park West is involved."

"I attended all the Park West events aboard Liberty of the Seas in November 2008. I wasn't expecting the whole 'art' thing aboard. Truth is, I checked it out for the free champagne and free artwork, but I was AMAZED at how FUN and INFORMATIVE you made it. That's what kept me going back for each event. I was never much for 'modern' art but I have a deeper appreciation since being a part of the events onboard. The art events really picked me up and MADE MY CRUISE a fun experience in a way I truly wasn't expecting. The coolest part is, coming home after vacation is usually a bit of a downer. But I still have something to look forward to in that the art I purchased is still coming and, since part of it is 'Caribbean-y', it will make a really cool souvenir."
Jackie N. (Pembrook, Ontario)

"I just wanted to thank you for inviting my wife and I to the fabulous VIP cruise. Megan is very competent and knowledgeable and she has a great personality and sense of humor. Ryan is an amazing auctioneer. Tim, Ann Marie and Tom did everything in such a friendly and professional manner. You should be very proud of this crew; we had a great time and we bought even though we hadn't planned on it because of how good they are at their job. As usual we were made to feel that we are VIPs and meeting the artists is an incredible experience. Thanks again for everything, Park West Gallery has greatly enhanced the quality of our life the last couple of years. Best regards to everyone including Albert who I view as the Vollard of our time."
Edmond H. (New York, New York)

Park West Gallery"Thank you for your invitation and opportunity to be part of the VIP cruise on the Carnival Pride. Starting with the Beverly Hilton overnight stay get-together, we knew we were in for a fabulous week. We had a wonderful time and met some great fellow art collectors. Your staff, directed by Rob, and his crew of never-ending energetic associates kept us well-informed and gently guided us through our purchases. We added three pieces - Picasso, Miro and Mouly, to our modest Masters collection. We especially enjoyed the visit to Puerto Vallarta. That was truly a special day. It was a beautiful setting with good food, great weather and 'art-to-die for' by Dominic Pangborn. What a treat to meet him in person. We also enjoyed spending time with Marko and Noah while on board."

Park West Gallery Launches New Artist Websites

Park West Gallery continues its 40 year tradition of connecting people with artists and fine art by inviting you to visit our new websites for artists Anatole Krasnyansky, Itzchak Tarkay and Linda Le Kinff. Park West Gallery's new artist websites feature updated artist biographies, online galleries of their artwork, YouTube videos and a forum for guests to share their thoughts about the artists and their art. Coming soon: Thomas Kinkade!

With his distinctive, vibrant, and profoundly expressive works, Krasnyansky has distinguished himself as a true virtuoso in the world of contemporary art. His use of brilliant colors and surreal forms invites the viewer into his wonderful amalgams of traditional Europe and theatrical L.A.

Primarily known for his work in oils and watercolor, Tarkay is also a world renowned master graphic artist. His rich tapestry of form and color is achieved primarily through the use of the serigraph, where he lays many colors over one another, creating a unique texture and transparency.

There is poetry to the fantasy worlds pictured in the images of Linda Le Kinff. They are exotic and lush. They are richly colored and exude a rhythmic harmony. The viewers are subtly transported to this magical world and curiously finds themselves immersed in the pleasures, moods, and feelings of Le Kinff.

Wonderful Memories to Cherish

"December 2, 2008

Dear Simon, Chris, Rebecca, and Samantha,

Simon Bull, Even Song The pleasure of attending the Park West VIP cruise was all ours. We will cherish the wonderful memories of our experience always and hope that we can see you all and the others again soon.

We attended the Park West VIP event aboard the Carnival Liberty with our top notch "art crew". We weren't sure what to expect and were quickly reassured that his event would be an exceptional experience for us...and it was!!! The team was knowledgeable, intelligent, sensible, reasonable, accommodating, reassuring, and FUN.

The art auction experience was miles above other art auctions we have attended in the past. The beauty and value of the art presented to us was beyond our imagination. Inviting the artists David Najar, Simon Bull, and Tim Yanke was inspiring and even more fun for us. I felt as though I could much better understand how they paint...creating art works from their inner space. They were each and every one of them gifted, talented, and humble men with whom it was our great pleasure to become acquainted.

We particularly enjoyed meeting and visiting with their families. It made us feel as though we would have had a similar experience had we gone on a cruise with some of the deceased master painters such as Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Renoir, Dali, or Rembrandt.

David Najar, Natural BorderWe cannot thank you enough for including us in the Park West VIP art cruising group. While at first herded together with 30 coupled strangers, we grew to bond with these people who were all tied together by each's love of fine art works. Our common joyful experiences among the art previews, auctions, special dinners, excursions, and endless cocktail parties with your fellow guests enabled us to develop comradery and some lasting friendships with these people as well as your able minded Park West personnel.

I am going everywhere among my wide circles of friends and family raving about what a wonderful time Park West Galleries provided us on our recent cruise. We had as Chris from England would say a "Smashing Time!" Now we cannot wait to meet our new art purchases which truly have taken our collection to a whole new level of quality and superiority.

With eternal gratitude for your kind generosity and hospitality,"

Happy Thanksgiving from the Park West Gallery Family

Dear Friends,

As we prepare for another Michigan autumn, and winter (if you've never experienced one, come and visit us!) our thoughts naturally turn to the upcoming holiday season and the realization that another year is nearly departed. This is a time when inevitably our thoughts are with those close to us, our families and with those things for which we are most grateful.

As Gallery Director (25 years now), it’s my pleasure to be the one to wish you all a peaceful and bountiful Thanksgiving holiday. We at Park West are so grateful for your business and support, for your many kind words expressed online, in letters and in person, and your appreciation for the art we bring to the world. We wouldn't be here without all of you.

From the Park West family, we'd like to send a big “Thank You,” and wish you a very happy, healthy and memorable holiday season.

Dear Park West Gallery Newsletter Editors

The Park West Gallery Newsletter staff is so appreciative of all of the thoughtful words we receive from our readers. Here are just a few of the kind responses and we look forward to publishing even more in upcoming issues!

"Meeting all the artists at the 40th Anniversary Event in Detroit was so exciting. Meeting, socializing and hearing each artist explain what motivates them to paint has given us the desire to collect additional art from artists we had previously not noticed. Our favorites have been the ones we naturally were drawn to at each showing, but now, we will enlarge our art collection with new artist. Park West Gallery was such an exciting place to be and meet and greet with so many wonderful people who love art. We made new friends of other art lovers and artists. Thank you for this enriching experience. A memorable moment for us was the night Albert and his wife sat at our table and gave us details of their work with the Girls Home. How wonderful they help with the blessings that God has provided with others in need. We love the newsletter! It is great to be advised of up to date happenings with Park West Gallery." Charles & Dutchie W. ~ Sherwood, Arizona

"Thank you very much for the newsletter. We purchased 7 Rembrandt etchings on one of our cruises and a Tarkay painting. I am so happy with them and am ready to start looking again. You have a great gallery and wonderful paintings. Jordon and his staff were outstanding. Looking forward to doing business with you again." Eldon & Jeanne B. ~ Blue Earth, Minnesota

"Thank you for the newsletter. We have many pieces of art acquired from Park West Gallery via various cruise lines and our house is full of a variety of styles and images which totally intrigue our neighbors, friends and family." Gloria & Mike S. ~ Kelowna, B.C. Canada

"I have bought at least a dozen [Park West] pieces for my home and office. Each one has a personal connection with an event or stage in my life. For example, after returning from seeing Chagall's painting atop the Paris Opera House, I bought the same theme in Le Dance. Right now, I am looking at Chagall's lithograph of a female figure overlooking a Village. I got it at auction right after my mom passed and it reminds me of her presence and caring every day at work." Chas C. ~ Bethesda, Maryland

"I just received your newsletter and couldn't stop reading. We are great admirers of Park West Gallery's people as well as the beautiful and unique art pieces you offer. The greatest part of being part of the 'Park West Family' is meeting the artists, and if lucky, learning more about THEIR PASSION in their craft. Thank you for the experiences we have been able to share." Kenn & Marie B. ~ Camas, Washington

"Thank you for this great [newsletter]. My wife and I have purchased a few pieces of work from Park West and have never been disappointed." Larry N. ~ Chanute, Kansas

"Thank you for the newsletter. It is another way for those who bought artwork to keep informed and to continue to be educated by those who really know and understand the present world of art. My wife and I continue to enjoy our artwork we have accumulated over the years, mostly from Park West." Kurt & Wilma P. ~ Denver, North Carolina

Park West and Thrive Africa

Qwa Qwa, South Africa -- The Park West Foundation is partnering with the ministry team at Thrive Africa toward the goal of AIDS prevention in South Africa. Thrive Africa's AIDS Prevention program, Leadership Summit, teaches students in public schools about abstinence, leadership development, and finding life-purpose through a relationship with God. The combination of these messages is helping young people live moral lives and make wise choices.

Niel and Alece van Rensburg are the founders and directors of Thrive ANiel & Alece van Rensburgfrica. As a white South African pioneering a ministry to the underprivileged in Africa, Niel's life is a testimony to the life-changing power of God. In 1998, after attending Bible College at Waterberg Training Centre and serving as the youth pastor and missions director at Wellspring Ministries, Niel founded Thrive Africa. His passion has always been duplication leadership - training leaders who will train other leaders - maximizing the long-term impact and effectiveness of ministry. Believing that Godly leaders can change not only communities but entire nations, Niel has committed his life to empowering indigenous leaders in Africa and around the world.

Having been involved in missions since her early teen years, Alece's heart beats for the lost. On her first trip to Africa at age 16, the Lord broke her heart for the people of Africa and gave her a passion to return long-term. In 1998, at 19 years of age, Alece obeyed the call of God and moved from New York to South Africa as a missionary. Living by faith, she helped Niel pioneer Thrive Africa from the ground up. Alece's heart is burdened by the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa, and she has given her life to turning that tide by raising up a new generation of Godly leaders who will change the destiny of the entire continent.

Niel and Alece were married in October 2000. Together they have forged ahead with Thrive Africa, their hearts beating with the vision God has given them to develop emerging leaders in Southern Africa. Currently, 70 Leadership Summit classes are taught biweekly in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade classes in 10 schools.

Thrive Africa
is currently teaching:
  • Living On Purpose - Life is worth living because God created you for a purpose

  • Save Sex - The facts about AIDS and the importance of saving sex until marriage
The classes are taught by coaches - Basotho young adults who are trained by the Thrive Africa team. These coaches have trained (and continue to train) teach, counsel, and mentor their students. Because the classes are taught peer-to-peer - by young adults who are from the same culture - the students' hearts are more receptive to the challenging messages. Genuine relationships are built between students and coaches, providing the students with role models to turn to for advice and help. The curriculum, developed by the Thrive Africa team, is culturally-relevant and Biblically-based.

Park West Gallery CEO and founder, Albert Scaglione, and his wife Mitsie are providing financial contributions and payment for printing and shipping 15,000 copies of the 48 page full-color
book Save Sex; 15,000 copies of the 128 page full-color book Living on Purpose ; and 2,000 copies of the 20 page book Story Tellers. These books are being used in the Leadership Summit youth ministry. Classes are two hours long and typically include practical games, interactive teaching, and small group discussion. Coaches also make themselves available before and after class to talk one-on-one with students.

A Memorable Park West VIP Cruise

Brise Tropicale Fanch "Brise Tropicale"

"I wanted to share with you some feedback about our first Park West VIP cruise. We spent last week in the Caribbean with Ann Marie, Tim, Tom, Ryan, and Megan. They made us feel like we were on an "exclusive" trip even though we were amongst 3,000 other people on the ship. Everything was well organized yet balanced our time so that we could also enjoy the islands and the events that the cruise had to offer.

Our surprise artists were Fanch, David Najar, and Leslie Lew. What a treat to meet and spend time with them. As you can imagine, we have memories that will last a lifetime!

They all made what we expected to be an "artsy-fartsy" trip into a memorable experience. Each one added their own special touch to the trip. They provided the perfect environment to learn about the art, the artists, and gave us personal consultations. Because of them, we purchased a piece of art from each of the artists that we met, and we finally added a Marc Chagall to our collection.

Thank you for including us on this vacation. Please thank them for the wonderful experiences they created for us! Without them this would have been just another cruise.

Steve and Matty G.

Park West Gallery Art Expo 2008

To celebrate Park West's 40th anniversary, more than one-hundred fine art auctioneers, associates and trainees from Plymouth Auctioneering, providing services for Park West cruise ship art auctions at sea, attended an unprecedented semi-annual conference and Art Expo during October 1-6, 2008.

Anatole Krasnyansky (left) with Itzchak Tarkay (right) at Art Expo 2008 Forty artists from around the globe - including Itzchak Tarkay, Peter Max, Yaacov Agam, Csaba Markus, Emile Bellet, Anatole Krasnyansky and Marko Mavrovich - were flown in and provided with complementary accommodations for the special event along with thirty of Park West's most distinguished VIP couples who also attended the festivities.

"I was taken away by the entire experience of the conference. The opportunity to meet and talk to so many of the artists that Park West represents was truly an experience of a lifetime. I now have a much more intimate feeling of Park West, how it operates and the amazing people involved in making the company what it is today," said associate auctioneer, Hooman Shad.

Attendees were treated to an opening ceremony and fine dining at the prestigious Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, Michigan. At the historic Henry Ford Museum everyone enjoyed full access to the museum's displays of impressive innovations and inventions. Cheers to Park West Gallery

Park West Gallery recently held a conference for over 100 Plymouth Auctioneering associates, providing services for Park West cruise ship art auctions at sea. The experience was memorable and gave everyone a chance to interact with the artists in attendance - Peter Max, Yaacov Agam, Itzchak Tarkay - just to name a few. Following are the thoughtful comments from some of those lucky to attend:

"Meeting with and interacting with the artists while creating art gave us a sense of the strong connection they have with Park West and we are an essential member of the same team. I felt very fortunate for this and would like to thank the forward thinking team for including us. Cheers.
All the best,

"I thoroughly enjoyed my training. The experience of meeting the artists was awesome and very unexpected which made it easier for me to learn instead of just reading all the info. You can get the feel of their passion and style from watching them paint or give a presentation. The trainers are fantastic. I feel motivated and ready to perform and look forward to boarding my ship.

"I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet with auctioneers from all over the world. The presentations were motivating and inspiring and I really enjoyed listening to Chris, Gordon and Lane. Being able to spend time in the gallery was amazing. Thank you so much!

"I definitely want to take a moment and thank Park West for the opportunity to be a part of the Conference. Best wishes and I'm thrilled to be a part of the Park West family.

"I was taken away by the entire experience of the conference. I feel very fortunate to have been able to be a part of such an amazing event. The opportunity to meet and talk to so many of the artists that Park West represents was truly an experience of a lifetime. To meet so many people that are a part of Park West gave me a much more intimate feeling of the company and how it operates and the amazing people involved in making this company what it is today.

"I learned a lot about the artists that I've met and about all the people that I will have the opportunity to work with in the future. I would like to thank all of you at Park West for giving me this unique opportunity to participate.
Thank you!

"I'd like to say that this entire experience has been phenomenal and I want to thank everybody at Park West for allowing me to learn and experience so much throughout both the training as well as the conference. As a result of the conversations I had with the artists throughout the conference, I feel that I've developed a much deeper understanding of their work and developed a much more personal connection to them as well as their art.
Thank you again,

"Hearing Mr. Scaglione speak and talking one on one with him several times, left me with a profound respect for Park West and inspired me to strong belief in myself and the company. The artist expo experience enabled me to make a personal and emotional connection with the art. I think this will ultimately allow me to provide clients with the highest level of service. Thank you very much for the opportunity and the experience.
Best Regards,

"I would like to thank everyone for giving me this opportunity to not just witness the greatness, but to share and be involved in this event. To have the chance of shaking Peter Max's hand or meeting Tim Yanke, and so many others, was a moment of my life that I will treasure and remember forever.
Yours Truly,

"It has been amazing, everything through our reception, food, meeting the artists to the organization. The gala event was probably one of the highlights of my life and career.

A Truly Great Vacation

"October 8, 2008

Dear [Park West]:

Consistent with our telephone conversation today I wanted to thank you for assisting me with information regarding my pending Peter Max shipment. The purpose of this letter separate from thanking you is to compliment the efforts made by your auctioneer, his wife and their 'on board' assistant. Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is very lucky to have your firm on board with them. My wife, and both of our respective mothers, took a cruise to Bermuda last month where I attended your 'on board' auction, both days.

The highlight of the auction in addition to my purchases was Arthur, his wife and their assistant. They made these events spectacular! Arthur is fantastic, his enthusiasm, his knowledge of art and history, his wit and experience made this an informative, fun and exciting event. The help that all three of them provided me helped with my various purchases. Their service was simply great. The knowledge of art and history their assistant shared with all of us was very informative and it made learning fun and exciting as well.

Frankly, I enjoyed myself so much at these two auctions, the cocktail event and the pre-auction activities that this activity made this cruise fantastic due to their combined efforts. Thanks to your staff this cruise for me will remain a standout memory and resulted in a truly great vacation. I hope to cruise again and look forward to seeing your firm on board. I remain,

Sincerely yours,"

Loyalty and Confidence - Park West Customers Share Their Sentiments

"September 30, 2008

I just wanted to let you know about the great people you have working for you on Royal Caribbean. We have been long time Park West customers, all the way back to when we lived in Michigan. The majority of our purchases have been with the cruise line staff. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Our most recent experience was on Voyager of the Seas, while visiting the Mediterranean. Jackie and her husband Damion were great. We bought 4 pieces. They answered all of our questions. I also saw Jackie dealing with some other passengers; she was very professional and always defended the Park West name and the services provided. She should be commended.

We also have had a long time relationship with Carrie and her soon to be husband Darko. We had purchased a number of pieces from them as well, including 2 Destino's from the first release. We have kept in touch by email over the years and are trying to set up another cruise, just so we can visit with them, and purchase some additional works. Destino #64

We are probably not your biggest purchasing clients, but we are loyal and confident in the value and [Park West] stands behind every transaction. Keep up the good work!

Best regards,
Chuck & Jan K." (Boynton Beach, Florida)

Park West Gallery Newsletter

Letters to the Editor

"The newsletter is a nice way to keep us up to date of the things that are happening at Park West Gallery. This way we can prepare for our next cruise and do some more shopping but with recent information and as informed collectors.

Personally I have purchased 20 pieces of art during my cruises in the Caribbean and Alaska and have enjoyed every moment and use the pieces to remember my travels.

"I liked the newsletter and the 40/40/40 thing is great. But, to tell the truth, I wouldn't part with any piece I purchased over the many years.

"Thanks so much for sending the Newsletter our way. It just reinforces our belief in your company and the attention we feel as a family from the members of the Park West team.

My father is a great admirer of Albert's and feels that he's much more than an employer, an agent or a business partner. He has proven to be great friend and a wonderful human being in good times and difficult ones as well. Please give him our best, we know that he has many a thing to tend to these days and that as always his positive attitude and love of his craft and profound respect of others will see him through anything that may come his way.

All of our best,

Rimma and the Krasnyansky Family"
