Park West Customer Corner
Like so many PWG customers, we began collecting artwork while aboard a cruise ship (10 years ago). Our first purchase was a pair of LTD ED giclees by Tomasz Rut, which still hang in our bedroom to this day. Over time, we would learn more about other artists and their techniques. Having had the ability to meet Simon Bull, Andrew Bone, Alicia Quaini and Alfred Gockel, we jumped at the chance to collect their original paintings, as well as those by Itzchak Tarkay.
In addition, though we have always been intrigued by the detail contained within vintage etchings, we never put much thought into owning any such piece. We would eventually opt to collect a "time piece of history," and selected an etching by Albrecht Durer, dating from the 1600's.
You've heard the saying, "the more things change, the more they remain the same." While our knowledge and interests continue to develop and grow, so too, does our love for the works of Tomasz Rut. We currently have nearly one dozen of Rut's giclees, and rotate them once or twice per year. Some of our friends have asked if we charge admission to our home (i.e. museum style), while others have made it a point to begin collecting similar pieces as well. The latter were referred to PWG, and are now able to display their own pieces within their own home(s).

Two years ago, my family and I took a cruise to Mexico. As it was my first cruise, I didn't quite know what to expect, and as I wandered the halls of what sometimes seemed like a medieval castle, I was soon enthralled by the atmosphere and adventure of a life at sea. However, all of the memories of sea lions and jeep expeditions and tacos that Mexico had to offer could not compare to the Carnival experience I treasure most; the art auction. Being that I come from a home of cowboys and tumbleweeds, I had never been exposed to art in the way a young person should. Though I'd heard of Da Vinci and Dali, I'd never been given the opportunity to appreciate them. Thanks to Park West though, I can now proudly say that I do.
Looking at the many wonderful pieces on display there in that room, I began my ardent and enthusiastic relationship with art. I bought my first painting, was generously given my second, and I left with a booklet that depicted some of the other pieces Park West sold. That booklet, the one handed out at the beginning of the presentation, now decorates the walls of my bedroom. Better than what any wallpaper or music poster could do, I've brought a little bit of the world to my now famous "Wall of Art," and it also helped me introduce the wonder of so many artists to many of my friends.
Sincerely Yours,
Stephanie S.

We just received our last shipment of artwork we purchased on our 5 day cruise out of Galveston, TX. We purchased our items after much research and had another great experience. The first time we purchased mostly lithographs that we liked, this time we purchased specific canvas items that we were looking for. We decided to purchase framing from Park West as well. The items we received were much better than we dreamed they could be. We purchased two Peter Max mixed media pieces, one Bellet on giclee on canvas, and a Krasnyansky deluxe edition on linen. The last one compliments an earlier Krasnyansky piece we purchased last year. YET ANOTHER GREAT JOB BY PARK WEST. We are very thankful that we found you and that the auctioneers we have met are all professional.

Wonderful Memories to Cherish

We attended the Park West VIP event aboard the Carnival Liberty with our top notch "art crew". We weren't sure what to expect and were quickly reassured that his event would be an exceptional experience for us...and it was!!! The team was knowledgeable, intelligent, sensible, reasonable, accommodating, reassuring, and FUN.
The art auction experience was miles above other art auctions we have attended in the past. The beauty and value of the art presented to us was beyond our imagination. Inviting the artists David Najar, Simon Bull, and Tim Yanke was inspiring and even more fun for us. I felt as though I could much better understand how they paint...creating art works from their inner space. They were each and every one of them gifted, talented, and humble men with whom it was our great pleasure to become acquainted.
We particularly enjoyed meeting and visiting with their families. It made us feel as though we would have had a similar experience had we gone on a cruise with some of the deceased master painters such as Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Renoir, Dali, or Rembrandt.
We cannot thank you enough for including us in the Park West VIP art cruising group. While at first herded together with 30 coupled strangers, we grew to bond with these people who were all tied together by each's love of fine art works. Our common joyful experiences among the art previews, auctions, special dinners, excursions, and endless cocktail parties with your fellow guests enabled us to develop comradery and some lasting friendships with these people as well as your able minded Park West personnel.
I am going everywhere among my wide circles of friends and family raving about what a wonderful time Park West Galleries provided us on our recent cruise. We had as Chris from England would say a "Smashing Time!" Now we cannot wait to meet our new art purchases which truly have taken our collection to a whole new level of quality and superiority.
With eternal gratitude for your kind generosity and hospitality,"

Park West Gallery Art Expo 2008

"I was taken away by the entire experience of the conference. The opportunity to meet and talk to so many of the artists that Park West represents was truly an experience of a lifetime. I now have a much more intimate feeling of Park West, how it operates and the amazing people involved in making the company what it is today," said associate auctioneer, Hooman Shad.
Attendees were treated to an opening ceremony and fine dining at the prestigious Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, Michigan. At the historic Henry Ford Museum everyone enjoyed full access to the museum's displays of impressive innovations and inventions. Guests were exulted by the entertainment at Detroit's luxurious MGM Grand Casino and Ignite Lounge. And finally, the ultimate culinary feast was had by all during the farewell party at the Roostertail, often host to celebrities including Tony Bennett, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin.
The Art Expo featured an introductory lecture by visionary pop artist, Peter Max, and other guest speakers included representatives from Kinkade and Disney Studios.

VIP guests, Tom and Judy of Corona California, complimented "The VIP event was awesome! The whole Park West staff went above and beyond to make it truly memorable. The friends we made and memories we shared will last for a long time."

"Dear Mr. Scaglione,
We would like to express our gratitude to you for inviting us to the Park West 40th Anniversary. It was indeed a huge success and a stupendous undertaking on your part to have such distinguished artists come together for your event.
We had a fabulous time seeing your gallery, meeting the artists and enjoying your lovely town, plus buying several great pieces of art.
The accomodations at the Townsend Hotel were superb and every breakfast, lunch and dinner were outstanding. Needless to say, every arrangement made by your staff, from airport pickup and back, the bus rides to the gallery were perfect.
We thank you so much for a wonderful five days in Birmingham and congratulate you on your many achievements.

Even More Kudos to Park West Gallery!
It has been two years since Nancy my wife and I were on the Carnival cruise ship. Enjoying the Bahamas and taking in the the wonderful views of the art work of Park West Gallery. We have friends and family come over to our house and enjoy the works of Alfred Gockel, Arkady Ostritsky, Anatole Krasnyansky( my favorite artist), Linda LeKinff, Marcus Glenn, Neil Farkas, Lebadang, Peter Max. You can tell we love are art work. I remember when I was a custom framer there at Park West over 16 years ago, I met Lebadang in person, a really nice gentleman. I truly miss the art world and the environment. I watched the Park West Gallery tour video online, the gallery is beautiful. My wife Nancy cannot believe how large and beautiful the gallery is. I hope you could tell Albert he has done a fantastic job on the gallery.
Best Wishes,

Customer Service Reflects on Park West Gallery's 40th
- "I thought the entire event was thrilling. Park West Gallery's 40th anniversary event was the 'cherry on the sundae ice cream.' It was great fun watching the artists arrive and seeing everyone cheer them on. Marcus Glenn's arrival in his red viper was hilarious, he is such an engaging personality. I found Jean Claude Picot's arrival very touching, even though he had a translator, his emotions came through his actions. I thought it was very sweet when he kissed people in the audience on both cheeks. Gockel made a stunning arrival dressed in white with everyone shouting his name. All of the artists were spectacular and it was great to hear their speeches in support of Park West. But the speech that moved me to tears was Albert's...I felt a chill go up my spine to see and feel such dedication and belief in Park West. He made a believer out of me too." ~ C.B.
- "I'm always continually amazed by how warm, gracious, and friendly our artists are. They seem to truly share their excitement and enthusiasm for artwork with everyone around them!" ~ L.W.
- "Our own Morris Shapiro warmed up the crowd in anticipation of what was to come. But you had to be there to believe it. Lights, cameras and action – on the red carpet Tarkay, Agam, Krasnyansky, Fanch, Picot, Simon Bull, Marcus Glenn, Linda Le Kinff, Scott Jacobs, Andrew Bone, Tim Yanke and the list goes on. All in one place at one time, will it ever happen again? Not in the same way. It was a privilege to be able to experience the excitement and energy that exploded that day. Thunderous cheers, Gockel, Gockel, Gockel. Did we glimpse Marcus Glenn trying to steal the show? Driving up to the red carpet in a Viper? Well it seems so, Marcus Glenn can get away with about anything, the cheers went up, the roar was thunderous (the crowd, not the car), mic in hand he gives us more than wonderful art, his wit, charm and intoxicating personality. Working at Park West is a joy, not only do you work with great people, from time to time you get to mingle with the who’s who of the art world. Park West artists are always willing to share a story, sign an autograph or pose for a picture. It’s more than just art; it’s being a part of the Park West family." ~ M.C.
- "The 40th anniversary event was very exciting to actually see some of the artists up close and associate them with their artwork. And it was interesting to hear comments from the artists regarding how they create their artwork. Overall it was a great experience I'm glad I got a chance be apart of the event!" ~ P.J.
- "The 40th Anniversary was amazing, vibrant and full of life. I would not have missed it for the world!" ~ L.M.

The Best of Park West
Friends like to tease this Philadelphia couple about their ever-expanding art collection: how if they obtain one more piece they’ll have to buy a new house in which to keep it.
Undeterred, the Katz’s are pursuing a passion for collecting which began with a single brilliant Tarkay print.
Edna Katz explains to Louis Postel how that first love blossomed into an ‘almost gallery’ of originals.
+++++++++++++
Louis Postel: How did you first come across an art auction?
Edna Katz: On a ship. It was the Celebrity Millennium.
LP: So did you assume you were going to buy art on a ship?
EK: No, but we said to ourselves: Oh… There’s an art auction, we should go!
I used to teach in a local school and the kids would do a local auction. They would bring ring in an actual auction house—though nothing of the quality of Park West, no originals or anything like that.
We started doing that maybe 20, 25 years ago to support our schools, and it was a nice way to pick up some prints for the wall. So when we went on the Millennium, which was our first big cruise, and saw that there was going to be art auction, we went.
And we fell in love with the auctioneer, because he was just a hoot and he knew his stuff. I wanted to ask him about a couple of pieces. He said, Well come, we’ll have champagne and look at them.
We bought four pieces at that first auction and that was what got the gallery interested in inviting us to more. They’re very, very much into finding what you like. Oh, they’ll ask: Do you collect Erte? Do you collect Tarkay?
They will let us know when an auction is taking place here in the Philadelphia area, or on a ship, or in the home office—the home office is gorgeous. The Vegas experience was just so much fun. Even though you were in Las Vegas, you were bidding on artwork, and then you were going around to big time restaurants, shows, and casinos at night, for more entertainment. They do take care of their customers and their clients, they really do.
LP: Do you remember the first piece you really fell in love with?
EK: Yes. We bought a Tarkay, a print. And then later when we got to Park West’s home office we got to buy more; now I own six Tarkays: three watercolors and three original oils and acrylics.
LP: Are they all in your home here, or—
EK: Yes.
LP: How have you displayed them?
EK: Well, my home is an almost gallery.
We expanded our house, we have double height ceilings across the whole back of our house, and we can therefore accommodate a lot of our artwork up the walls. We are lucky to be able to show our artwork here so that our friends and we can enjoy it.
LP: Is it fair to say that first auction got you and your husband going as collectors?
EK: Absolutely. And every once in a while the gallery will call: “Are you ready for another event?”…And it becomes at matter of can I afford a new painting right now, and where am I going to put it?
LP: What feedback do your friends give you?
EK: My friends are awed by the pieces.
They wonder where in the world we’re going to put the next one. They ask if we’re going to buy another house just to show the new artwork. In fact, we did buy a house at the shore, and I brought a lot of the prints out there. The originals will stay with us here in Philadelphia because we’re just not out there enough.
LP: How’s the Park West staff?
EK: I’m just fascinated by the amount of knowledge that the art staff has. Morry is just… Morry Shapiro can tell you anything.
I will ask him question privately rather than ask on the floor because sometimes my question is a very particular thing that the rest of the people aren’t interested in. But often we have found if I have the question, there are other people have the same one.
They are extremely knowledgeable. However, parts of the VIP events that are not about the art. They’ll say, “We’re all going to go out to Red Square for dinner! We’re in Vegas, and we’re going to Red Square for dinner, and the next thing I know we’re all in the little vodka room in fur coats.
LP: Do the auctioneers ever push art as a good investment?
EK: No. But they’ll tell you, for instance, that you have to be extremely careful about the Dali works. Everybody who works in the art world knows that Dali has been copied more than any other famous artist has, and you have to be careful that your provenance is correct. They will show you what it is and trace the provenance with you. You have copies of everything when you buy, so you know that you can resell the artwork if that’s what you want. My husband keeps track on the computer of what the current market value of the piece is. Most of them have gone up. I wouldn't say that a lot of them are climbing, but they’re certainly doing better than the stock market.
LP: How about your own personal taste – has that changed since the beginning?
EK: No. It’s evolved in a lot of ways, we’ve learned about new artists, but our taste is the same. A curator at a museum once said, “Your taste is so eclectic,” and I said, “No, it really isn’t. Our taste is all about color.”
So, we own a lot of different artists but they all have some magic of color.
I became a fan of Alfred Gockel because there’s so much color. Tarkay was originally one of our first purchases because it was all about color. Some people are much more into the masters but I’m not. They just don’t do the same thing for me. There was a Chagall I would have bought if I had a few million dollars lying around…it was very colorful.
LP: And what about your home décor --Is that colorful too?
EK: No. The walls themselves are very, very plain. The artwork is the decoration.
What comes next?
EK: We don’t know.
My daughter is an art history major. She’s got her eye on what she would like to have. We will also be making decisions about the collection as a whole. As it gets bigger, something will need to happen.
